Belgravia Classic Car Show returns to Belgrave Square

This June, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, in partnership with Chestertons, will open Belgrave Square Garden for the Belgravia Classic Car Show. Now in its second year, the one-day event will once again give guests the opportunity to discover an old but not forgotten age of engineering, design, art and history, with a spectacular display of over 150 classic and vintage cars spanning eight decades. Local owners across London and car clubs including the 96 Club and Waterloo Classics Car Club will be showcasing their own cars, representing a host of marques from the exotic – Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati to family favourites Ford, MG and Morris, with the crème de la crème exhibited in the Inner Circle, including:

  • Lotus Turbo Esprit 1984 – the first ‘supercar’ produced by the Norfolk-based company, and one of Lotus’ best sellers in the early 1980s
  • Jaguar XJR 15 1991 – one of the rarest Jaguars, only 53 XJR 15s were built in the early 90s, with a price tag at the time of £500,000. Its body was designed by Peter Stevens who later penned the McLaren F1
  • Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental – The 1929 Phantom II was the last model designed by Henry Royce – a four-seater tourer, powered by a 7.7-litre engine. Only 281 Continentals were produced, with some of the bodywork completed by Gurney Nutting, who were later appointed the official ‘Motor Body Builders’ to the Prince of Wales in 1931.
  • Steady Special 1934 Lancia Astura – this renowned Italian is back on the road for the first time in more than 50 years, following a six-year ‘ground up’ restoration project which has seen the car rebuilt to the unique design penned by its previous owner, the late Ronald ‘Steady’ Barker, legendary road tester automotive journalist and racing driver.
  • Aston Martin DBS – This striking 1970 model has three claims to fame – firstly, as the actual car appearing driving by late Sir Roger Moore in ‘The Persuaders!’ television programme. Secondly, the car bears the autographs of both Sir Roger Moore and his co-star Tony Curtis in the boot lid. Finally, it’s the only known example produced in ‘Bahama Yellow’.
  • Rolls Royce Silver Seraph 1998 – Owned by the Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor. It was unveiled to the world at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show as the first all-new Rolls Royce model for 20 years.

Running from 11am until 5pm on Sunday 24 June 2018, the show promises to be more than an opportunity to admire the breadth and depth of the classic car scene. Guests can also enjoy live jazz performed by The Mississippi Swamp Dogs Jazz Band, refreshments, a BBQ, and an ice cream stand, all within the beautifully restored 4.5 acre garden – known as ‘Belgravia’s green and leafy centrepiece’, which dates back to 1867.

Craig McWilliam, CEO of Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said:

We’re thrilled to see the return of the Belgravia Classic Car Show in our spectacular Belgrave Square this summer. This year’s shortlist of vehicles is truly outstanding, and we expect that the event will prove to be popular amongst car enthusiasts, like myself - not just in London, but across the country. Grosvenor is committed to ensuring that its London estate is as inclusive and open as possible, and this particular event is one way in which this is being made possible.

Michael Scott, Vince of the 96 Club, said:

Following our successful debut at Belgrave Square in 2017, we are greatly looking forward to this year’s show and welcoming even more stunning vehicles and classic car enthusiasts to this motoring garden party. With a larger selection of cars on show and more food, drinks, and family entertainment available, this year’s event is set to be a bigger success than last.
