Enjoy the dish that marks the beginning of Lent in these fantastic eateries.
Instead of whipping up your own crêpe batter, why not have your pancakes al fresco at the Mount Street Deli? The deli will be serving pancakes on-the-go from an outdoor stand between 2pm and 5pm for those who fancy a pit stop. Choose from pancakes the classic way with lemon and sugar, or try a sumptuous chocolate filling. Inside the deli, you’ll find other indulgent toppings such as maple syrup and whipped cream.
Also found on Mount Street, Scott’s is traditionally known for its seafood but will be stepping outside of its comfort zone for Pancake Day. Rather than settling for conventional fillings, the Mayfair restaurant will be dressing up the humble crêpe with a quintessentially British flavour combination: rhubarb and custard. Take a friend to brunch and enjoy two childhood favourites in one.
For those on a gluten-free diet (whether out of choice or necessity), the chefs at Daylesford on Pimlico Road will be flipping two coeliac-friendly crêpe specials. The delicious gluten-free pancakes come with a choice of fillings: sweet Seville orange and bergamot or savoury Gloucester ham and Baywell cheese. The deli-cum-café, which offers fresh, organic, seasonal produce delivered daily from Daylesford’s market garden, will also be tossing pancakes outside for customers with busy schedules – so there’s no excuse not to stop by.
Baker & Spice on Elizabeth Street will continue to offer its tried-and-tested range on Pancake Day, which includes traditional American-style, gluten-free sweet potato and buttermilk pancakes. The array is available as part of its seasonal menu, so can also be enjoyed before or after the event. Choose from a variety of fillings, including maple syrup, lemon, berries, caramelised banana, honey and crème fraîche.
