New year, new you – or at least that’s the theory. Here are six great healthy eating spots to help you start 2017 as you mean to go on, and you may be surprised at the sheer range of nutritious eats on offer.
The clue is in the name. The Good Life Eatery on Motcomb Street has solid healthy eating credentials with a mantra of encouraging everyone to eat better, healthier and happier. The menu encompasses everything from acai granola for breakfast to a wide range of superfood salads for lunch and protein-packed small plates to share. And don’t forget their cold pressed juice range to get you one more step towards your five a day.
Yotam Ottolenghi has become synonymous with delicious, healthy food from the Middle East. This small but perfectly formed Motcomb Street branch offers an array of mouth-watering salads, soups and mains such as grilled salmon with pickled ginger, pistachio, coriander and chilli yogurt. Be sure to arrive early, though, as they don’t take reservations – but even if you miss out on a place at their cosy communal table, you can order food to take away.
Belgravia residents will be more than familiar with this organic haven on Pimlico Road. With its roots in organic farming and a passion for seasonal cooking, Daylesford offers a place to relax with friends and sample delicious produce fresh from their own farm in Gloucestershire. Try their freshly baked bread, supergreens eggs benedict, black beluga salad or nourishing chicken bone broth with ginger for a particularly virtuous dining experience.
Noura transports diners to the Lebanon thanks to a mouth-watering array of mezze dishes – including classics such as tabouleh and fattoush – and with branches in Hobart Street and Curzon Street, there are plenty of opportunities to give them a try. Grilled dishes and seafood feature heavily on the menu, and anyone yearning for a salad fix should try the Lebanese mountain salad. There’s also a home delivery service for those lazier days.
Hunan, on Pimlico Road, isn’t your typical Chinese restaurant. There’s no menu to choose from – diners simply explain what they don’t eat and how spicy they like their food and Hunan’s chefs do the rest. Flavours have a distinct Taiwanese influence and portions are served tapas-style, which means that as well as choosing the healthiest options, you can sample as few or as many of their specially prepared dishes as you like. From hearty broths to signature dishes like their crispy frog’s legs with chilli, you’re guaranteed a unique dining experience that is sure to keep you coming back for more.
