Get Crafty From Your Laptop

From painting and gardening to knitting and redecorating, arts and crafts have never been more important for keeping us connected and occupying our minds. To fill us with more inspiration, London Craft Week 2020 launched a virtual preview from 27 April - 3 May, for a glimpse into what to expect this autumn when the event takes place across London from 30 September – 8 October.

An array of retailers from across Mayfair and Belgravia are getting involved, including:

  • ERDEM. Across an almost two year period, fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu worked on the creation of a new Chinoiserie design for interpretation as both a hand painted wallpaper and as a motif for a corresponding womenswear collection. In an exclusive video, ERDEM unveils their new creation of their new design with de Gournay, the bespoke wallpaper specialists.

  • Jessica McCormack. Jewellery designer Jessica McCormack is inviting participants to design a ring worthy of her collection. To participate, print out the design sheet from the JM Creative Club, draw your ring design and post a picture of it on your Instagram using the hashtag #JMCreativeClub and tagging @jessica_mccormack. The winner will be chosen by Jessica on Monday 11 May and will receive an iconic Jessica McCormack 18k gold Rope Ring.

  • The New Craftsmen. Over twelve weeks, The New Craftsmen will be presenting a series of stories directly from makers’ homes, studios and workshops. First up, embroidery and textile artist Aimee Betts offers an insight into her daily routines and working practices.

  • LINLEY. For the first time, LINLEY are offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the marquetry used to create their unique World Map Table, which is hand-crafted by specialist craftsmen in the UK using over 40 individually selected veneers.

  • SCP. For LCW 2020, SCP has invited London-based glass designer Jochen Holz to present a collection of new work, including vessels, tableware and one-off objects. Holz has developed a meditative working practice in East London, where improvisation and controlled experimentation lead his creative output. The work he creates is innately human, capturing in form a specific moment in time.
