Mayfair and Belgravia
April 28, 2020
Enjoy a New Mayfair Art Exhibition From Home
Mayfair’s Bastian Gallery, located in Davies Street, has been brought alive by abstract splashes of colour as works by Hans Hofmann go on display. The exhibition, ‘Fury: Painting after the War’, is on display until 23 May 2020 and features works by German-born American artist Hofmann which are being shown in the UK for the first time.
The exhibition pays homage to a pivotal time in the artist’s career and focuses on paintings executed at the end of the Second World War and immediately afterwards, a period which saw Hofmann’s style develop into the abstract in response to the challenges of the era.
Primarily known for his expressive use of bold, often primary colours, the palette used in the works exhibited at BASTIAN consists predominantly of vivid, bright colours and contrasting dark tones, epitomising the conflicted post-war feeling.
The show has been
selected by the Royal Academy as one of their top 10 exhibitions to see
, so it is definitely not one to miss. There are a number of ways to explore the exhibition from home. There is an
online viewing room
where you can learn more about the artist and the works on display, or viewers can take a
video tour of the exhibition.
The art world remains buzzing with virtual art fairs and Bastian is participating in four online art fairs until the end of May including, London Original Print Fair online (1-30 May) and The Eye Of The Collector (12-31 May). Visit
Bastian Gallery’s website
