The Lanesborough is opening a club and spa that promises to provide the perfect tonic for people looking to recharge their batteries after a long winter.
It's a spa, but not as we know it. From its 360° approach to wellbeing, to the introduction of a spa butler, The Lanesborough Club & Spa promises to take health and fitness to a new level when it opens on 13 March this year.
Positioned between Mayfair and Belgravia and covering 18,000 square feet within The Lanesborough, the Club & Spa is available to hotel guests and members and promises access to internationally acclaimed experts from the fields of fitness and wellness.
“The journey starts with our concierge, and runs seamlessly throughout all elements within the club from the design, spa, restaurant and bar, to relaxation spaces, fitness facility, food menus, therapist, experts and the team,” explains Benjamin Evans, General Manager of the Lanesborough Club & Spa. “This journey depends entirely on the members’ own needs and desires.”
And where better to relax and recharge than inside The Lanesborough? This grand 1700s building that once housed St George’s Hospital was transformed into a hotel in 1991, and today it’s known for its classically British service and quintessential charm. So, there’s every expectation that this oasis of Regency elegance will offer guests a truly indulgent experience.
Working a treat
This experience begins the moment guests enter the spa, with Bath Stone, silk wallpapers, wood panelling and leather upholstering adorning this sophisticated setting. “The Lanesborough Hotel is a traditional British institution,” says Louise Wicksteed, Creative Director at 1508, which designed the décor, “so when designing the spa areas, we used the hotel’s heritage as inspiration to create a space with a modern but quintessentially English feel.”
Given the breadth of what’s on offer, the hardest part might be choosing what to try first. The spa’s exquisite manicure and pedicure suites offer guests a range of pampering products in the utmost privacy. Members and guests can revive tired limbs in the hydrotherapy pool, or relax in one of the thermal suites for a soothing detox.
Helpfully, the club's spa professionals have recommended some treatments for anyone eager to be pampered after the winter. They include a Tibetan body treatment, for which five expertly blended essential oils work together to stabilise the five sensory organs. Or you can opt for bio-energy mud bathing with salt crystal scrub, an experience the spa's team describes as “a deeply cleansing experience that will relax and restore the muscles”.
Then there's the 'Absolute' treatment, an uplifting facial that lasts 90 minutes, allowing time to focus on the neck, eyes and décolleté. The treatment involves refined massage techniques and technology that together “provide a much deeper solution to skin ageing”.
Service with a difference
Members and guests can also experience treatments and workouts delivered by recognised experts. They include 'super therapist' Anastasia Achilleos and James Duigan, the founder of Bodyism – a holistic approach to health that involves a nutrition-packed diet and an active lifestyle incorporating simple, core exercises.
It's part of a package designed to offer a discreet haven from the hubbub of London. “The Lanesborough understands our members have high-pressure and busy lives, which is why we have implemented a position called a spa butler,” says Benjamin. “They are part concierge, part personal assistant and can help ensure all the small tasks that prevent you from training or relaxing are dealt with.”
This includes everything from sending gym kits to the laundry, to speaking to the chefs to ensure members have a bespoke protein drink ready for you when you leave the club.
The result is an environment fit for what The Lanesborough, part of the prestigious Oetker Collection, claims will be London's finest private members' club.
