Find Your Belgravia: Hilary Batstone Antiques

Tell us a brief history of your brand – how it all began, what you do and your plans for the future.

I bought my first shop in 1986 on the King’s Road. Back then I sold antique textiles and fabrics, however today I am probably best known for furniture, mirrors and lighting, ranging from the 18th century through to the 1970s.

How long have you been based in Belgravia?

I had a showroom on Holbein Place for some time, but moved to a new shop on Bourne Street in 2019

Talk us through your ideal day in Belgravia, where would you visit, eat, drink, shop, workout, relax?

I’d pick up some fresh fish for supper from the Pimlico Road Farmer’s Market, swing by the Knightsbridge Golf School for a quick golf lesson, a spot of lunch with family or friends at La Poule au Pot, and pop into Mungo & Maud on Elizabeth Street to buy some treats for my miniature poodle, Eric.

Where is your favourite spot in Belgravia?

Pimlico Road for its wonderful selection of antique dealers and interior designers, including my daughter, Rose Uniacke

What is your commute to Belgravia?

I live next door to my shop, so fortunately my commute is a matter of four footsteps

What is it that makes Belgravia so unique?

It has a village atmosphere and everyone is very supportive of each other. I always look forward to the annual Pimlico Road summer party - hopefully it will return next year!
